COLD RESISTANCE
Detail
When the ambient temperature descends below 0°C rubber rapidly begins to lose its elasticity and flexibility as well as its ability to resist wear (abrasion), impact and cutting.
The covers and the rubber between the plies in the carcass also begin to crack.
As the temperature continues to fall the belt becomes so stiff and rigid it is unable to trough and pass around pulleys. Ultimately, the belt will break because frozen rubber becomes as brittle as glass.
